LI / PO · Loading Inspection / Origin Pre-Clearance

We clear your shipment at the point of origin so it clears quickly at its destination

We physically inspect the goods, documentation, and loading process prior to shipment. By inspecting at the origin instead of the destination, we save your business days in customs delays, storage fees, and unexpected holds.

The problem doesn't occur at the source; it occurs after the container has already arrived.

An inconsistency between the cargo and the documents goes unnoticed while the goods are in transit. It only becomes apparent at destination customs, where every day of delay comes at a cost and every correction takes more time than your operation can afford.

↑ Cost / time to resolve
up to 15 days
01

Days the goods have been held at the port.

A documentation discrepancy detected at the destination can delay the release of your shipment by up to 15 days. Every day that passes means inventory that doesn’t reach your customer along with tied-up capital.

02

Storage, handling, and delays.

As long as the goods aren’t released, costs continue to accrue for port storage, unloading operations, and container delays—daily charges that weren’t in your budget.

+ time and cost
03

Unexpected customs inspections.

A shipment with inconsistent documentation increases the risk of a physical inspection by customs. A customs inspection adds time, cost, and potential findings that can complicate clearance.

04

Differences Between Goods and Documents.

If the declared information does not match what was loaded, the correction must be made at the destination, with your customs broker, against the clock. What took only a few minutes at the point of origin becomes a process that takes days at the destination.

Origin · a matter of minutes
Destination · a process that takes several days

We do the work at the source that is normally discovered at the destination

Our team inspects the cargo, verifies the documentation, and oversees the loading process before the shipment leaves its point of origin. We perform the inspection that would otherwise take place at the port of destination, when resolving any issues becomes time-consuming and costly.

We verify the actual goods against the commercial documentation. If there is a discrepancy between what is being shipped and what the paperwork states, it is detected at the point of origin, not at customs.

We are on site during the loading and stowage of the container. We check the condition of the container, the arrangement of the cargo, and that it is properly sealed—because a stowage issue can also delay a shipment.

The digital report is sent to you and your customs broker well in advance, giving you enough time to prepare the clearance documentation while the goods are still in transit.

The difference between shipping in 2 days versus 15

When the review is conducted at the point of origin, the documentation and validation work is already complete by the time the goods arrive at their destination. Customs clearance becomes a quick procedure rather than a lengthy process.

Five checkpoints between the factory and the port

We track the goods throughout their journey at the point of origin—from the factory to the port. These are the five points where we verify them.

Ready before departure, not after arrival

Information that your customs broker receives before the goods arrive

The report is the information needed to prepare the shipment in advance, so that the container can be released as soon as it arrives at the port.

Results of the physical, documentary, and loading process inspection. Includes a clear recommendation regarding the condition of the shipment.

Comparison of physical goods against commercial documents (invoice, packing list). Inconsistencies detected and noted prior to departure.

Photographs of the container, the cargo, the stowage process, and the sealing.

Container condition, seal number, cargo condition. Information relevant to your customs broker and your cargo insurance provider.

The report is sent to you and your customs broker in digital format, giving you time to prepare the clearance documentation while the goods are in transit.

During loading and before shipment

Origin Pre-Clearance is conducted at the time the container is loaded, before the vessel sets sail. However, there are certain operational scenarios where its impact is greater.

01

High volume and recurrence

If you import containers frequently, every day you save on clearance adds up. Origin Pre-Clearance turns a one-time savings into a sustained operational advantage.

Ideal for frequent importers.
02

Regulated Goods

Chemicals, automotive, machinery, and regulated products. The shipments subject to the most customs scrutiny are the ones that benefit the most when they arrive at their destination with their documentation already validated.

Ideal for industries with strict customs requirements.
03

Time-Sensitive Operations

Seasonal demand, product launches, just-in-time inventory. When the customer’s delivery date allows for no delays, shipping within 2 days instead of 15 is no longer just a cost-saving measure—it becomes a necessity.

Ideal when time is of the essence.

Questions We Get Asked About the "Origin Pre-Clearance" Program

The time saved varies depending on the type of goods, the customs broker, how far in advance the report is reviewed, and how well the documentation is prepared. Under favorable conditions, the time savings can be as much as 13 days, since clearance can be completed in approximately 2 days compared to conventional clearance. To take full advantage of this benefit, we recommend that you begin reviewing the documentation as soon as you receive our report.

No. The Origin Pre-Clearance system allows for advance customs clearance, but it does not replace the customs broker’s responsibility. At Asia IBS, we gather detailed documentation regarding the goods, packaging, labels, distribution, and cargo; it is your customs broker’s responsibility to verify regulatory compliance and determine the customs procedures applicable to your operation. Both roles complement each other to streamline the process and provide greater certainty.

That’s right. Once you loop us in with your customs broker or share your specific requirements, Asia IBS will gather all the necessary documentation to match those points. While regulatory interpretation and compliance validation remain with your customs broker, our team works in close coordination to ensure the information you receive is clear, actionable, and delivered on time.

We document any inconsistency with detailed photographic evidence in the Origin Pre-Clearance report. Armed with this data, you can decide in a timely manner whether to request supplier corrections prior to dispatch, update documentation, or prepare corrective measures upon arrival, such as working with accredited verification units (UVAs) for labeling compliance.

The service applies to both types of shipments: full container load (FCL) or less than container load (LCL), provided that the scope is defined in advance. For consolidated shipments, it is especially important to have an up-to-date packing list, a list of SKUs, the suppliers involved, and authorization to open the packages during the inspection. We’d be happy to guide you in preparing these requirements so that the inspection proceeds smoothly and efficiently.

The report is delivered within 48 to 72 business hours after the audit, inspection, or review is completed. The exact timeframe may vary depending on the agreed-upon scope, the volume of information reviewed, the number of SKUs, the number of suppliers involved, and the complexity of the case. As soon as it is ready, we will share it with you for your review.
