The Port of Algeciras concludes its trade mission to Chile, a strategic country for its salmon and fruit exports

The APBA and a dozen companies strengthen contacts and explore new business options in the Latin American country

The trade delegation of the Port of Algeciras concluded this Friday the trade mission in Chile carried out throughout the week in the Latin American country by representatives of the APBA and a dozen logistics companies.

On Thursday, the Algeciras delegation visited Puerto Montt, on the edge of Chilean Patagonia, one of the nerve centers of the Pacific fishing industry. After Norway, Chile is the world’s second-largest exporter of salmon. In addition to fishery products, Chile stands out for its exports of fruit and vegetable products during the northern hemisphere’s off-season, with production of avocados, apples and kiwis. These are products in which the Port of Algeciras seeks to consolidate and grow its market position.

From its base in Santiago, the mission has kept the delegation on an intense working agenda, with networking meetings to generate new business opportunities and technical sessions with the main exporters that already use the Port of Algeciras, as well as with potential customers.

Chilean exports to Europe through the Port of Algeciras have doubled in recent years. San Antonio and Valparaíso are the two busiest Chilean ports, to which Algeciras is connected in 24 and 27 days, respectively, via the Panama Canal.

Chile is a strategic country for the refrigerated (reefer) cargo logistics of the Andalusian port. All the meetings held this week showcased the advantages of reaching the European, Mediterranean and North African markets through the Port of Algeciras.

Meetings were also held with the country’s main associations, such as the trade promotion agency for Chilean exports (ProChile) and the Agro-exporters Association, as well as with the heads of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of Spain in Chile.

In addition to the APBA, the companies taking part in the Trade Mission to Chile were Americold Algeciras, Algetransit, Bernardino Abad, De Castro, ECS360, Logístika 360, Logística del Sur, Marítima del Estrecho Aduanas, SAM Algeciras, Transbull, UCC Logistics Spain and Zener Marine Elevator Services. The mission was backed by the Andalusian Agency for External Promotion (Extenda) and is part of the ITI (Integrated Territorial Investment) program for the province of Cádiz.
